As part of this tour we will visit Smbataberd, one of the old and large fortresses of Vayots Dzor and Syunik. Historical information has been preserved about the bloody battle between Armenians and Persians (Battle of Avarayr) near the fortress in the 5th century. The Vasaks, the princes of Syuniat, probably made Smbataberd their military base. And during the reign of the Orbelyans, Smbataberd became even stronger.
