The Aghjkaberd fortress was a famous military structure located approximately 16 km southwest of the city of Ijevan, on the top of a wooded mountain, surrounded on all sides by high cliffs and protected by artificial pyramidal walls. The fortress preserves the remains of various buildings, the most noticeable of which is a dilapidated church of the 10th-11th centuries of a cruciform four-chamber structure, reminiscent of the Armenian Apostolic Church in its structural features. We will start the hike from the road leading to Ijevan; the road leading to the fortress passes through the forest. Most of this route is quite easy, only the last part requires you to climb a steep slope leading to the Agchkaberd fortress.
