Located just 40 minutes from Yerevan, this trail is one of the best places for hiking. It starts from the Antarut Village and ends at Amberd Fortress. Although the Aragatsotn region is not rich with forests, most of this trail passes through the forest, a small part through the gorge and finally we begin to walk along the gorge. The diversity of nature is amazing, especially when you come out of the forest and the valley of the Arkashen River opens before you, on the top of which are located the Amberd Fortress and the Vagramashen Church (1026). Along the path leading to the castle, you will see a rock formation that looks like a sun. If you are lucky enough to walk this trail in autumn, you can be sure that you will not have any variety of colors, and you will also taste hawthorn, rosehip and barley. Amberd Fortress was built in the 7th century, located at an altitude of 2300m on the slope of Mount Aragats and means “fortress in the clouds”. You can start this route from either the Antarut or Amberd Fortress, or start and finish in the Antarut village (The length of the two-way route is 14.4 km with 671 m. elevation).
