Departing from the city of Goris to the villages of Karahunj and Khot, along the way you will come across abandoned medieval villages and caves. Although Karahunj shares its name with a more famous stone monument near Sisian, there is no connection between the two. Archaeological finds have been discovered in the village and its surroundings dating back to AD. Traces of medieval villages can be found on the nearby hills. In the 18th and 19th centuries, local residents moved from cave houses to stone houses. The village of Old Khot was located on a very steep mountain slope on the left bank of Vorotan river, surrounded by gardens and inaccessible rocks. In the old village there is the Mrgadzor Khach church, and nearby the Hoti Vank church (5-6th century).
