As part of this tour we will visit Smbataberd, one of the old and large fortresses of Vayots Dzor and Syunik. Historical information has been preserved about the bloody battle between Armenians and Persians (Battle of Avarayr) near the fortress in the 5th century. The Vasaks, the princes of Syuniat, probably made Smbataberd their military base. And during the reign of the Orbelyans, Smbataberd became even stronger. After the hike we will also visit Tsagats Kar (Tsagatskar Monastery).
We will finish the tour with a visit to the Zorats Church (St. Astvatsatsin). It is located on a hill and was founded during the time of the Orbelians. The building has a unique architectural structure. Thanks to this structure, warriors could ride up to the altar on horseback to receive a blessing before battle.
